The Physics of Breakdancing

Breakdancing connects to physics because it uses friction, work, power, energy, and centripetal force. Newton's first law plays a big part in breakdancing because two well known breakdancing moves, flares and windmills, both use the idea that an object in motion will stay in motion. Not only does it involve these two but almost all power moves.

Best type of floor to breakdance

Most people breakdance or dance on hardwood floors. Hardwood floors have a smooth surface and they can absorb the impact you do on it when breakdancing. Some people don't like to use concrete or tiles flooring because they can hurt your legs and knees. Breakdancers sometimes have a portable mat that looks like hardwood floor, take they out to just breakdance in public.

Best Shoes to Breakdance In

After some research we found that it doesn't matter what shoes they are, as long as they feel comfortable to you. To me, I feel Vans are great shoes to breakdance in. They are light, comfortable, and they look good. In the end its up to the person what type of shoes they like to dance in. Every type of shoes has more or less friction against the ground. The more friction you have, will cause you not to slide around a lot, which happens often when breakdancing.

Goal

Goal: find out what factors add up to the best breakdance. Final project should include a materials list, an enviroments list,a list of injuries, times, and videos of the break dances being performed.
